Newspaper employees of Madhya Pradesh pledge to fight for Majithia Award

Prophets of doom have been proved wrong. They have been spreading rumours that there was no enthusiasm for the Wage Board Award among the newspaper employees. But on the contrary, hundreds of newspaper employees assembled to listen and interact with Advocates Parmanand Pandey and Colin Gonsalves on 16th May 2015 at Bhopal regarding the state of Majithia Wage Award. They wanted to know as to how to put across their grievances before the labour inspectors to be appointed by the state government on the direction of the Supreme Court. There is terrible mistrust among the employees towards the labour inspectors. They think, and rightly so, that the state officials behave as the handmaid of the newspaper proprietors and even the political leaders are afraid of taking the side of the employees.   Shri Pandey, who is also the Secretary General of the Indian Federation of Working Journalists, exhorted the employees to unionise to get their rights. It is the disunity of workers and their fear factor that is depriving them from their legitimate rights. He told them, at length, how the battle for the Award was fought and won. There was no need for them to be panicky. In any case, the State Governments would have to appoint the Labour Inspectors as per the direction of the Supreme Court.   They have only to inform the Labour Inspectors about the total number of employees- regular and contractual both, wages which they have been getting before and after the judgment. They must ask the labour inspectors to make a surprise visit to the offices of the newspapers to procure their balance sheets and advertisement tariffs. If there is any harassment like suspension, transfer or termination or change of service conditions, they must immediately bring it to the notice of inspectors and prevail upon them to make it the part the report. Labour Inspectors should be told, in no uncertain terms, that if any false report is submitted by them, it would put them in soup and therefore they should be doubly cautious about the factual position. No newspaper owner or the political bandicoot would come to their rescue if they fudge with factual position in their reports.   Shri Pandey promised them to send a detail advisory to them in a fortnight, which will help them in making the representations to the inspectors. This has to be done assiduously to make a foolproof case. A team of dedicated comrades has to work hard. Cheap publicity has to be avoided. Agents of managements, operating in different garbs and disguises, will spread misleading canards to distract the employees from their path. Therefore, they must guard against them.   Senior Supreme Court lawyer and noted Human Rights Activist Collin Gonsalves told he employees that in the past no Award was implemented by the owners because the governments have been sleeping over them but this time because of the intervention of the Supreme Court, it was going to be a reality. Employees must have to remain united and alert otherwise a battle that had been won might turn into a disaster. He was lavish in his praise to MS Yadav of the PTI Federation, who pulled all socks during the struggle for the Award and told the employees to show the similar grit and determination to achieve the benefits of the Award in their organisations. He wondered over the lack of unionisation in the newspaper industry.   There are dozens of registered unions of newspaper employees or journalists in Madhya Pradesh but they have never approached the Labour department of the state for any of the demands of the newspaper employees or media persons, bemoans an official of the State Labour Commissioner while talking to us in Bhopal. It sounds strange and shocking that many criminals and thugs are running the unions of journalists in Madhya Pradesh for their own protection and livelihood. They will talk of fourth estate but have not even heard of Wage Boards. They will flatter the officials for advertisements for their rags and behave like pimps of politicians to bluff their proximity with them. There is one senior journalist, who said that he would not share his grievance with some union leaders because they would pass it on to the proprietor of his newspaper to make some money.   There may be exaggeration in what he alleged but this perception about unions is certainly very painful and the unions will have to take initiative, in all seriousness, to purge such traders. Regrettably, the Patrakar Bhavan of Bhopal has been usurped by hoodlums and frauds. Successive governments have failed to restore it the rightful owners, the Bhopal Shramjeevi Patrakar Sangh, an affiliate of the IFWJ because it suits the governments to have goondas on their sides to browbeat the genuine journalists. Be that as it may, the Majithia Award has come as a boon for the real working journalists to unite and throw out the dishonest and selfish wolves roaming in the garb of sheep.    It was pleasure to see a large number of women newspaper employees enthusiastically taking part in the meeting. Employees of Nayee Duniya, Nav Duniya, Dainik Bhaskar, Rajasthan Patrika are now up in the arms to achieve the Award. Salman Khan of the Bhopal Shramjivi Patrakar Sangh and the old and infirm Rajendra Kashyap was present all along in the meeting to keep the spirit of youngsters high. The undersigned vowed the employees that IFWJ would not leave any stone unturned to redeem their rights.

भोपाल 28 अक्टूबर 2013। इंडियन फेडरेशन आफ वर्किंग जर्नलिस्ट (आईएफडब्ल्यूजे) के 63 वें स्थापना दिवस पर एम.पी.यूनिट के संयोजक साथी सतीश सक्सेना ने कहा कि आई.एफ.डब्ल्यू.जे. देश के पत्रकारों का एक मात्र संगठन है, जो निरंतर श्रमजीवी पत्रकारों के कल्याण की दिशा में सक्रिय है।  श्री सक्सेना भोपाल में आयोजित एक समारोह में बोल रहे थे। कार्यक्रम का संचालन सलमान खान ने किया। कार्यक्रम  में भोपाल की छानबीन समिति के संयोजक साथी राजेन्द्र कश्यप ने आव्हान किया है कि गोवा अधिवेशन के संकल्पों को पूरा करने का समय आ गया है। हमारे सामने एक साथ केन्द्र तथा राज्य सरकार के साथ चुनौती के साथ खड़ा होना पड़ेगा।  कार्यक्रम में महेश सिंह, राजेन्द्र मेहता, जवाहर सिंह राजू खत्री, दीपक कुमार सहित अनेक पत्रकार उपस्थित थे।

 भोपाल। 26 अक्टूबर स्वर्गीय गणेश विद्यार्थी क्रांतिकारी पत्रकार इंडियन फेडरेशन आफ वर्किंग जर्नलिस्ट से संबंद्ध भोपाल वर्किंग जर्नलिस्ट यूनियन संभागीय इकाई एवं गणेश शंकर विद्यार्थी स्मृति संस्थान के सदस्यों के संयुक्त तत्वाधान में वरिष्ठ पत्रकार राजेन्द्र कश्यप की अध्यक्षता में क्रांतिकारी पत्रकार गणेश शंकर विद्यार्थी के जन्म दिवस पर एक बैठक में सर्वप्रथम उनके चित्र पर माल्यापर्ण किया गया पश्चात् में उनके व्यक्तित्व व कृतित्व पर वक्ताओं ने प्रकाश डालते हुए उनको स्मरण किया । बैठक में दिल्ली से पधारे मुुख्य अतिथि वरिष्ठ पत्रकार विद्याधर चतुर्वेदी ने उनके जीवन की विभिन्न  घटनाओं से प्रेणा लेने का आव्हान किया।
देश केी आजादी की लड़ाई में पत्रकारों ने अपनी लेखनी को हथियार बनाया था। महात्मा मोहनदास करमचन्द गांधी,लोकमान्य बाल गंगाधर तिलक के साथ ही गणेश शंकर विद्यार्थी का विशिष्ट स्थान है। क्र ांतिकारी योद्धा पत्रकार के रूप में और अंग्रेजो के विरूद्ध विचारों की अग्नि से धधकती लेखनी से ब्रिटिश सत्ता को बेनकाब करने में गणेश शंकर विद्यार्थी ने महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई थी।
आजादी की लड़ाई में हिन्दू मुस्लिम एकता के पक्षधर कानपुर के एक दंगे में शहीद हो गये । क्रांतिकारी पत्रकार के रूप में भारतीय पत्रकारों की स्वतंत्रता के लड़ाई के इतिहास में उनका नाम स्वर्ण अक्षर में हमेशा लिखा रहेगा। सभा में  युवा विद्यार्थी पत्रकारों ने भारी संख्या में उपस्थिति सराहनीय रही। आभार प्रतिवाद डाट काम के संपादक श्री दीपक शर्मा ने प्रगट किया।

पत्रकारिता के पुरोधा गणेशशंकर विद्यार्थी गणेशशंकर विद्यार्थी का जन्म (26 अक्टूबर, 1890) आश्विन शुक्ल 14, रविवार सं. 1947 को अपनी ननिहाल, इलाहाबाद के अतरसुइया मुहल्ले में श्रीवास्तव (दूसरे) कायस्थ परिवार में हुआ। इनके पिता मुंशी जयनारायण हथगाँव, जिला फतेहपुर (उत्तर प्रदेश) के निवासी थे। माता का नाम गोमती देवी था। पिता ग्वालियर रियासत में मुंगावली के ऐंग्लो वर्नाक्युलर स्कूल के हेडमास्टर थे। वहीं विद्यार्थी जी का बाल्यकाल बीता तथा शिक्षादीक्षा हुई। विद्यारंभ उर्दू से हुआ और 1905 ई. में भेलसा से अँगरेजी मिडिल परीक्षा पास की। 1907 ई. में प्राइवेट परीक्षार्थी के रूप में कानपुर से एंट्रेंस परीक्षा पास करके आगे की पढ़ाई के लिए इलाहाबाद के कायस्थ पाठशाला कालेज में भर्ती हुए। उसी समय से पत्रकारिता की ओर झुकाव हुआ और इलाहाबाद के हिंदी साप्ताहिक कर्मयोगी के संपादन में सयेग देने लगे। लगभग एक वर्ष कालेज में पढ़ने के बाद 1908 ई. में कानपुर के करेंसी आफिस में 30 रु. मासिक की नौकरी की। परंतु अंग्रेज अफसर से झगड़ा हो जाने के कारण उसे छोड़कर पृथ्वीनाथ हाई स्कूल, कानपुर में 1910 ई. तक अध्यापकी की। इसी अवधि में सरस्वती, कर्मयोगी, स्वराज्य (उर्दू) तथा हितवार्ता (कलकत्ता) में समय समय पर लेख लिख्ने लगे। 1911 में विद्यार्थी जी सरस्वती में पं. महावीरप्रसाद द्विवेदी के सहायक के रूप में नियुक्त हुए। कुछ समय बाद "सरस्वती" छोड़कर "अभ्युदय" में सहायक संपादक हुए। यहाँ सितंबर, 1913 तक रहे। दो ही महीने बाद 9 नवंबर, 1913 को कानपुर से स्वयं अपना हिंदी साप्ताहिक प्रताप के नाम से निकाला। इसी समय से विद्यार्थी जी का राजनीतिक, सामाजिक और प्रौढ़ साहित्यिक जीवन प्रारंभ हुआ। पहले इन्होंने लोकमान्य तिलक को अपना राजनीतिक गुरु माना, किंतु राजनीति में गांधी जी के अवतरण के बाद आप उनके अनन्य भक्त हो गए। श्रीमती एनीं बेसेंट के होमरूल आंदोलन में विद्यार्थी जी ने बहुत लगन से काम किया और कानपुर के मजदूर वर्ग के एक छात्र नेता हो गए। कांग्रेस के विभिन्न आंदोलनों में भाग लेने तथा अधिकारियों के अत्याचारों के विरुद्ध निर्भीक होकर "प्रताप" में लेख लिखने के संबंध में ये 5 बार जेल गए और "प्रताप" से कई बार जमानत माँगी गई। कुछ ही वर्षों में वे उत्तर प्रदेश (तब संयुक्तप्रात) के चोटी के कांग्रेस नेता हो गए। 1925 ई. में कांग्रेस के कानपुर अधिवेशन की स्वागतसमिति के प्रधान मंत्री हुए तथा 1930 ई. में प्रांतीय कांग्रेस कमेटी के अध्यक्ष हुए। इसी नाते सन् 1930 ई. के सत्याग्रह आंदोलन के अपने प्रदेश के सर्वप्रथम "डिक्टेटर" नियुक्त हुए। साप्ताहिक "प्रताप" के प्रकाशन के 7 वर्ष बाद 1920 ई. में विद्यार्थी जी ने उसे दैनिक कर दिया और "प्रभा" नाम की एक साहित्यिक तथा राजनीतिक मासिक पत्रिका भी अपने प्रेस से निकाली। "प्रताप" किसानों और मजदूरों का हिमायती पत्र रहा। उसमें देशी राज्यों की प्रजा के कष्टों पर विशेष सतर्क रहते थे। "चिट्ठी पत्री" स्तंभ "प्रताप" की निजी विशेषता थी। विद्यार्थी जो स्वयं तो बड़े पत्रकार थे ही, उन्होंने कितने ही नवयुवकों को पत्रकार, लेखक और कवि बनने की प्रेरणा तथा ट्रेनिंग दी। ये "प्रताप" में सुरुचि और भाषा की सरलता पर विशेष ध्यान देते थे। फलत: सरल, मुहावरेदार और लचीलापन लिए हुए चुस्त हिंद की एक नई शैली का इन्होंने प्रवर्तन किया। कई उपनामों से भी ये प्रताप तथा अन्य पत्रों में लेख लिखा करते थे। अपने जेल जीवन में इन्होंने विक्टर ह्यूगो के दो उपन्यासों, "ला मिजरेबिल्स" तथा "नाइंटी थ्री" का अनुवाद किया। हिंदी साहित्यसम्मलेन के 19 वें (गोरखपुर) अधिवेशन के ये सभापति चुने गए। विद्यार्थी जी बड़े सुधारवादी किंतु साथ ही धर्मपरायण और ईश्वरभक्त थे। व्याख्याता भी बहुत प्रभावपूर्ण और उच्च कोटि के थे। स्वभाव के अत्यंत सरल, किंतु क्रोधी और हठी भी थे। कानपुर के सांप्रदायिक दंगे में 25 मार्च, 1931 ई. को धर्मोन्मादी मुसलमान गुंडों के हाथों इनकी हत्या हुई। सम्पादन कार्य इसके बाद कानपुर में गणेश जी ने करेंसी ऑफ़िस में नौकरी की, किन्तु यहाँ भी अंग्रेज़ अधिकारियों से इनकी नहीं पटी। अत: यह नौकरी छोड़कर अध्यापक हो गए। महावीर प्रसाद द्विवेदी इनकी योग्यता पर रीझे हुए थे। उन्होंने विद्यार्थी जी को अपने पास 'सरस्वती' के लिए बुला लिया। विद्यार्थी जी की रुचि राजनीति की ओर पहले से ही थी। यह एक ही वर्ष के बाद 'अभ्युदय' नामक पत्र में चले गये और फिर कुछ दिनों तक वहीं पर रहे। इसके बाद सन 1907 से 1912 तक का इनका जीवन अत्यन्त संकटापन्न रहा। इन्होंने कुछ दिनों तक 'प्रभा' का भी सम्पादन किया
